Modern Dentistry for your comfort …
Dental bonding is a technique used in modern dentistry to repair teeth and improve smiles.
Healthy teeth not only enable you to look and feel good, they also make it possible to eat and speak properly. At dentael, we offer Modern Minimally Invasive Dentistry for your comfort, including Composite Dental Bonding, where we aim to avoid drilling or cutting teeth.
Teeth that are decayed, broken or worn may have signs and symptoms but not always. Many people are unaware that they have a damaged tooth until it’s too late to repair it and so the tooth is extracted. However many teeth can often be repaired to avoid losing them. A number of treatment options are available for repairing teeth, including Cosmetic Composite Dental Bonding.
Signs of Decayed Teeth:
- Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet
- Toothache
- Coloured marks on teeth
- Bad breath
- Unpleasant taste
- Hole in tooth
- Chipped or broken teeth
Signs of Worn Teeth:
- Chipped biting edges
- Translucency of the edges of front teeth
- Pits or holes on the tooth surface
- Yellower teeth
- Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet
- Teeth have an older appearance
At dentael, we focus on Minimally Invasive Dentistry. This involves preserving tooth tissue, preferably by preventing and stabilising disease from occurring and repairing teeth by removing as little tooth tissue as possible. (In simple terms avoiding cutting teeth where ever possible)
We offer Adhesive Dentistry using Cosmetic Composite Dental Bonding techniques. White tooth coloured composites bond to teeth, making them particularly good for use in Minimally Invasive Dentistry. They are usually placed directly in the mouth or may be constructed outside the mouth as inlays/ onlays and then bonded in place.
These modern Cosmetic Composite Dental Bonding techniques, have a number of benefits :-
- Chemically bonding to the tooth, helps to support and strengthen it, without having to significantly cut the tooth compared to some other treatments.
- They colour blend into the tooth compared to metal amalgam fillings, thereby making them less noticeable.
- They have the advantage of being more conservative as less tooth cutting/drilling is required for their placement compared to metal amalgam fillings or crowns. In many cases these adhesive restorations require no cutting/drilling of the tooth at all.
- These advanced direct composite dental bonded white fillings can often repair teeth, thereby avoiding the need for a costly and more destructive crown.
- With direct cosmetic composite dental bonding the treatment is usually completed in one appointment, thereby avoiding multiple visits that are often required with crowns and veneers.
- They are cost effective compared to crowns. A large direct composite bonded white filling on average costs approximately £250 where as a crown on average costs approximately £700.
The broken decayed tooth was repaired using dental bonding so that a crown was avoided. The old amalgam filling was removed and replaced with a composite bonded tooth coloured filling.

The edge of the front tooth had chipped and was repaired without any cutting of the tooth by direct composite dental bonding.

Many of the front teeth were damaged by tooth wear due to a habit of clenching and grinding teeth (Bruxism). The worn edges were repaired without any drilling or cutting of the teeth, by building up the edges using composite dental bonding.

Improving Smiles with Modern Adhesive Dentistry
Cosmetic Composite Dental Bonding, apart from treating decayed or damaged worn or chipped teeth, can also be used to improve the appearance of the smile by closing gaps or reshaping teeth.
Repairing chipped and worn teeth with direct Cosmetic Composite Dental Bonding has the advantage of being more cost effective than other more complex restorative treatments such as veneers. Patients also benefit with treatment usually completed on the one appointment thereby giving immediate results.
Other Minimally Invasive Dental Treatments available are Professional Teeth Whitening to lighten the colour of teeth and give a whiter smile and Adhesive Bridges which can fill gaps by replacing missing teeth. Adhesive Bridges are an affordable alternative to dental implants which are more costly, require surgery and take longer time.
Composite dental bonding was used to close the gap between the front teeth. A conservative afforable alternative to costly veneers.

An adhesive bridge was used to replace the missing lower front tooth, to avoid the cost and surgery of a dental implant.

Vital Pulp Therapy and Root Canal Treatment
This is required to restore a tooth if the nerve part of the tooth is affected.
Vital Pulp Therapy is a modern technique to avoid the costly and complex dental procedure of Root Canal Treatment. Vital Pulp Therapy takes less time and costs a lot less than Root Canal Treatment.
Root Canal Treatment is an intricate procedure and although with latest techniques, success rates are high, like any procedure involving biological tissue, it may not be successful. Most teeth that are root treated are recommended a crown to help reduce the risk of the tooth fracturing. If the tooth is very broken down, sometimes a post may need to be placed in the root, following the root filling, in order to help build up the tooth, prior to placing the crown.
Crowns
Sometimes a crown are unavoidable. They may be needed to help provide support to a tooth especially after root canal treatment. If a crown is required it can be all ceramic metal free tooth coloured, or porcelain bonded to metal or all metal. The tooth will have to be cut and shaped prior to placing a crown.

Veneers
These are thin facings placed on teeth which may be constructed in different dental materials. Often, as with crowns the tooth needs to be cut and shaped prior to placing a veneer. However, we may be able to use Minimally Invasive Dentistry techniques, such as Composite Dental Bonding in many cases. so as to avoid cutting tooth structure and avoiding drilling teeth.
Unrestorable
It is not always possible to save a tooth, and sometimes it may have to be extracted.
Once a tooth is extracted, there are usually the following options :
- accept the space
- fill the space with a denture
- fill the space with a bridge
- fill the space with an implant
