Dental check ups for you and your family
Regular dental check ups are essential for detecting problems early. During a check up, your dentist carefully examines your teeth, gums and mouth, looking for signs of decay, gum disease and other oral health issues. Early detection means simpler, less invasive treatments and better outcomes for your overall health.
Starting treatment early is always preferable. Problems that are caught in their early stages are often easier and more affordable to treat. Left unchecked, minor issues can develop into more serious conditions that may require extensive treatment. A routine dental check up can save you time, discomfort and expense in the long run.
We welcome new patients and are happy to arrange a convenient appointment for you and your family. Whether it has been a while since your last visit or you are looking for a new dental practice, our friendly team is here to put you at ease and provide thorough, professional care.
What happens during a dental check up?
Examining for tooth decay
During a dental check up, your dentist examines each tooth for signs of decay. Early detection is key, as small cavities can be treated simply before they become larger and more problematic. X-rays may be taken to check for decay between teeth and below the gum line, where it is not visible to the eye.
Examining for gum disease
Your dentist checks the health of your gums, looking for signs of plaque and tartar build-up, inflammation, redness and bleeding. Gum disease is one of the most common oral health conditions and, if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. Early detection and control of gum disease helps to preserve your teeth and supporting structures.
Examining for tooth wear
Tooth wear is becoming increasingly prevalent. Your dentist checks for signs of wear caused by grinding, clenching, erosion from acidic foods and drinks, and general abrasion. Identifying wear early allows us to provide advice on prevention and, where necessary, protect teeth before further damage occurs.
Examining for soft tissue lesions
As part of your check up, we carefully examine the soft tissues of the mouth, including the cheeks, tongue, lips and floor of the mouth. We look for ulcers, unusual patches, swelling and any signs that may indicate oral cancer. Early detection of soft tissue abnormalities is vital for prompt treatment and the best possible outcome.
After the dental check up
After your examination, your dentist will discuss the findings with you, explain any treatment that may be needed and answer your questions. We believe in clear, honest communication so you understand your oral health and can make informed decisions about your care.
We often recommend a professional cleaning following your check up. This removes plaque and tartar that cannot be removed by brushing alone, leaving your teeth feeling fresh and smooth. Before you leave, we will help you book your next appointment so your oral health stays on track.
“Great customer service and professional. I would recommend it because the dentist goes the extra mile and gives options and advice in relation to your concern.”
